Finally, a higher caliber of Kid Protection Internet software
PC Pandora: this is a new monitoring software application that “allows parents to record, review, and play back everything their children do online, including all their logins, passwords, instant messages, emails, and every web site visited”.
After hearing all of the recent news about pedophiles targeting children using myspace.com, this looked to me to be a great way to protect children against this kind of behaviour.
It’s not just the negative aspect to avoid, it’s the positive benefits to go after. The Internet is so chock-full of multi-media, educational value for children, it’s not even funny. Ludicrous to even repeat here in fact.
So if a software application such as this could add just one more layer of protection, than children could be that much more freer to benefit from the Internet without being targeted by some really twisted minds.
Personally speaking, one of my aspirations when I started out with programming was to use this skill to fight crime. I wanted to write some kind of futuristic satellite-based communication system that would read a face imprint of a convicted criminal when they walked upon someone’s lawn (yeah, I can get into my science-fiction moods and dream about doing this stuff). And then the police would be notified right away. However, even before the police was contacted, some kind of central PowerLine-driven alarm would sound to alert the homeowner.
So that’s why I am drawn to products such as this that are meant to crime-fight.
Forget about the smart move by this company to create a product based on this solid and necessary need of the market.
It’s just plain good to see technology being written in order to allow the good side of technology to benefit everyone, including kids.
